The Smoking Rate of the Elderly According to the Level of Education and Income: Using the 2018 National Health and Nutrition Survey Data

Abstract

|
Objective : Recently, the problem of smoking has been increasing, and social interest in smoking has been increasing. This research analyzed the smoking rate according to the educational and income levels of the middle-aged people as determined by the National Health and Nutrition Survey.
Methods : Of the 2,151 people who participated in the 2018 National Health and Nutrition Survey, the smoking rate was analyzed according th their educational and income levels. We analyzed the demographic characteristics of the person and the smoking rate by educational and income levels cross-examined with the independent sample t-test.
Results : It was found that education levels and Income levels were statistically significantly higher in non-smoking groups(p<.05).
Conclusion : The research shows the difference n smoking rates between the income level and education level of the middle-aged people. These result could be used as a basis for developing smoking cessation programs that take into account income and education levels.
